Concept of the CertiLingua Label of Excellence

Required are competence in two modern languages at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the successful use of least one of them as a working language in one or more upper-division courses as well as European and international competence regarding the successful utilization of curricular opportunities and participation in an international cooperation project.

Friedrich Schiller Gymnasium is a part of the CertiLingua network, in which all members have closely worked together since the pilot phase in 2007. This kind of cooperation guarantees a consistent high level of quality in all participating countries. All of the eight CertiLingua schools in Saxony maintain close contact, monitor the quality of the candidates’ efforts to meet CertiLingua criteria and thus help to ensure the label’s level of excellence.

At Friedrich Schiller Gymnasium, CertiLingua candidates may choose from four languages to demonstrate their skills: Czech, German, English or French.

Czech and German are part of the school curriculum. They are also working languages in the bilingual classes of the lower division as well as in the elective introductory course “History of German-Czech relations” of the upper division.

The verification of European and international qualifications includes knowledge, skills and experiences that CertiLingua candidates have gained in specific meeting projects, such as during exchanges or internships abroad or at their own school.

The students present a written document about project results in a language that has been verified by CertiLingua and that meets the standards of upper-division education. Either this presentation that puts the topic in a European and international context can be done in the form of a lecture, which CertiLingua candidates can also give in their foreign language classes or they may give evidence of their European and international qualifications in a colloquium, which will be attended by international guests and visitors that operate at an international level.
