Binational Class Projects

The booklet ‘The Colors of the Year’ (“Barevný rok“) was written at Friedrich Schiller Gymnasium in the years 2011-2012. German and Czech students from the binational class thought up poems, stories, songs, raps and lyrics, wrote them down, added images and recorded their raps and songs at the SAEK sound studio in Dresden. The edition of this booklet was made possible through the support of the German-Czech Future Fund.

The project Encounters ("Setkávání“) took place at Firedrich Schiller Gymnasium in 2013. ‘Encounters’ take place here all the time including the encounters of German and Czech students as well as the encounters with the culture and the traditions of the corresponding neighboring country or simply encounters with known and unknown, usual and unusual situations. The first half of the booklet consists of photo stories and comic cartoons. These stories were invented and creatively presented by German and Czech students from binational grade 7. The ‘unknown’ is somthing ‘unusual’, something that we could encounter in our everyday lives, which some face with enthusiasm, others with anxieties or prejudices.

The German and Gzech students from our binational 10th grade dedicated the second half of the booklet to the special topic of ‘Everyday German and Czech encounters’. They took photos in the Czech Republic and in Germany, e. g. in Saxony in which they show German and Czech traditions, customs, habits and their own experiences. By discussing their observations and perceptions they tried to figure out what they had in common and how they were different in order to creatively communicate their knowledge. The recordings and the images can be found on the accompanying DVD.
The SAEK sound studio provided specialist technical assistance for the whole project.

The project ‘Fairytales on the go’ is a project by the students from the bilingual-binational classes of Friedrich Schiller Gymnasium in Pirna, which could be published in 2009 thanks to the financial support of Dresden Airport. It is a German-Czech book of fairytales that are for reading and listening. The students thought up or retold fairytales in their respective mother tongue, translated them into the partner language and recorded them for a audiobook CD. The booklet was also illustrated by the students.
