Let’s go to London!!!

45 pupils, 4 teachers and 2 bus drivers spent one week in London in nice Great Britain. Our trip began on 5th September 2010 in Pirna and started with a long coach journey to Calais. There we saw the big ferry and with this wavy shipping we came across the channel to Dover. Dover Castle was the first stop and as interesting as windy, but this wasn’t a problem. Also it confused us that the Englishmen went on the other side of the road and so we had to get used to this behavior. From there we went to Canterbury. There our group was divided, the pupils from “Herder Gymnasium” went to the cathedral and we, the pupils from “Schiller Gymnasium”, went to Canterbury Tales. This is a very interesting museum, where you are introduced to Geoffrey Chaucer’s stories of the Middle Age. After this we had some spare time and finally in the end of the day we went to our host families. My friends and I were in an Indian family, so it was something very special, but it wasn’t a bad time. One day we got some Indian food, which tasted very delicious and the family was nice, but a little bit strange too. Finally, on Tuesday we saw London, a very big, crowded and beautiful city. After a long traffic jam we were in the centre of the city and started a great sightseeing tour with our bus and a guide from London. After we had seen all important sights, like Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, a lot of parks, St. Paul’s Cathedral and many more, we had spare time again. We went shopping or visited other sights. The weather was typical for London, because it rained, but the temperature was pleasant and so we felt well.

The next day we went to Windsor. There we had six hours free time and so we could visit the wonderful Windsor Castle and also the cities Windsor and Eton. I have to say, that I didn’t think Windsor Castle was so impressive. But I have been mistaken. With the Audio-Guide Tour we could learn a lot of things and I found the castle was very nice and interesting. In addition this evening we could watch one of two musicals, either Lion King or Dirty Dancing. I chose Dirty Dancing and I thought it was completely okay, not how I have fancied it, but it wasn’t bad, therefore it was a good experience for me. Our last day in London was Thursday. In the morning we said “Goodbye” to our host families and then we went to the Tower of London by the London Underground, the “Tube”. After we had seen the crown jewels and other things of the Tower of London, we ate the traditional food, Fish and Chips and had some free time.

After this all pupils could say if they rather wanted to visit the London Dungeon or the Madame Tussauds London. I chose the London Dungeon and I have to say it was very good. The London Dungeon is a horror cabinet, which is telling of the history of London. It is very creepy, amusing and entertaining, so I liked it very much. The last that I did, with some friends, was, that I visited the National Sciences Museum. There you could try out many things yourself. I can only recommend it, because the museum was gigantic as well as almost all museums in London.

The last day came to its end and with it also the trip. So we went back home on 10th September 2010. At the end I can say, that I liked this journey very much. It was a new experience, a new place, new people and it was worth it. I hope I can say: “London I will see you again!”
